Darkly expressionist physical theatre… sharp performances, mix straightforward dialogue with sudden bursts of physicality and beautiful live music.”
THE SCOTSMAN

Strike where they’re weakest. Disappear without a trace. Win without a fight.

Inspired by images of civil war, rebellion and loss; “Queen of the Slaughter” follows an idealist who leaves his home to fight for a cause in which he believes.

The first Prodigal show made specifically for an international audience and now in re-development before a new version premieres at the Brighton Festival 2009, “Queen” has performed at Teatro Della Contraddizione, Milan, the Komedia, Brighton, and at Aurora Nova during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2007.

WINNER Argus Angel Award Brighton Festival Fringe 2007

After training in the UK Alister joined Dah Teatar, a Belgrade based theatre laboratory working in the Odin Tradition with whom he worked from ’97 - ’99 when he co-founded Prodigal Theatre. He is the writer/performer of the multi-award winning Tragedian Trilogy and performed as Bosola in “Ten Thousand Several Doors” which won “Best Show” at the 2006 Brighton Festival. He performed as the revenger in “Queen of the Slaughter” which won an “Argus Angel” there in 2007. He is the lead member of Prodigal’s Urban Playground Team, and Prodigal’s spokesperson.
“Masterful… Majestic… Magnificent…”
El Pais

Bastard. Drunk. Actor. Genius.

“On the 26th of January 1814 Edmund Kean made his debut at Drury Lane and changed theatre history forever. But he was no overnight success. He was a grieving drunk megalomaniac. He was poetry in motion.”

Created over six years the multi award winning Tragedian Trilogy tells the life story of England’s most celebrated and controversial actor, the first trans-Atlantic superstar and ultimate hell-raiser.

The famous tenor Caruso was trapped in the San Francisco Earthquake of 1906. In order to return home to the family he loved, he had to escape his collapsing hotel room, cross a city swept by fire and fight his way past the military on to the only ferry out of town. Beautiful storytelling and live opera singing combine to reveal the heart behind a legend

A Prodigal Theatre collaboration with Andrew G Marshall

Developed with The Nightingale Theatre

Premieres at the Nightingale Theatre during the Brighton Festival Fringe 2008.

“If you're after something tremendous, come to this…”    THREE WEEKS

A dark tragedy of greed, ambition, revenge & treachery, Webster’s Duchess of Malfi remains a provocative, original work. Now, the opulent court is supplanted by a 1950s underworld in Prodigal’s site-sensitive reworking of the Jacobean classic. Stripping back to the bare bones of Webster’s narrative to create a multilayered montage of music and voices, the action plays out in a thrilling promenade among the backrooms, stairways & surrounding streets of a city centre venue.
Best Show Winner Brighton Festival “Not to be missed” BBC.

A Brighton Festival Co-Commission with Made In Brighton. Devised by the company under the direction of Jane Collins. Supported by the Arts Council of England, South East & the Wimbledon School of Art. Sponsored by Sara Arnett of Simultane and the Trevor Sorbie Salon.
Since 2004 Prodigal’s performers have practiced Parkour; the urban discipline of overcoming obstacles with efficient, eloquent movement.

The Urban Playground is the world’s first and only specifically constructed Parkour stage. This unique series of modular platforms is designed to subvert any architecture it encounters making every performance an original, wordless drama of dance at speed and height.

Prodigal, in collaboration with Parkour originators Charles Perrier and Malik Diouf and their organisation Gravity Style, create dynamic choreographies exploring the relationship between the human body and the [built] environment redefining the audience’s vision of home.
